When hiring Skyler you get a package deal for a set price.
Attention to detail makes all the difference, sometimes the difference between life and death. It's not about just following instructions, it's about observing the signs the plants and animals are giving. Sometimes, for numerous reasons, a plant doesn't want as much water one week or has had a little too much sun another week. Robotically continuing a set routine without paying attention to what the outward signs the plants are providing can lead to a bad end result.
Likewise, sometimes pets have off days. For example, as much as someone's lab might love to run, it's entirely possible that the dog just isn't feeling well one day. Maybe a slower pace, a shorter walk, or perhaps a change in the routine is what's needed...maybe the beach instead of the woods. Or maybe your pet just needs to rest off the ailment. It's all possible and your pet will communicate all this with body language.
As long as your house sitter happens to be an ecologist, you might as well take advantage of it, right? Focusing on native plants restoration, Skyler is currently in post graduate ecology studies. For those who have a yard, why not let your house sitter improve the property while spending time outside with your pets? Of course, this requires more planning and discussion than standard house-sitting, but it's an option!
“Our timid dog benefitted from having Sklyer stay with him for 18 days. Zeke was socialized, exercised and totally content. Loved Skyler’s communication and video updates.”

Skyler was the only person I would trust my pets and home with while I lived in California. I even flew him to Austin to sit for me after I moved..

Although I’m not a licensed trainer, people regularly ask me is I am after witnessing me with dogs and other animals, or ask if I am a “dog whisperer.” I am pursuing a PhD in animal behavior, but I attribute my success with animals to my willingness to see things from their point of view. The fact that I love playing and exercising always helps.
Specifics.
My experience with dogs ranges from the largest to the smallest. Great Danes, huskies, shepherds, pits, and labs all the way down to miniature poodles. I've spent twenty plus years diving with sharks so I don't easily get intimidated just because a dog is big or growls.
Dogs and cats go back to childhood as does experience with farm animals. My adult experience with farm animals centers around farmed-animal rescue organizations, not active exploitation of such species.
I recently added an AS in Natural Science to my academic resume to enhance my growing interest in plants and yard work. I focused on wildlife ecology and the role of native plants in California. I enjoy outdoor labor so any house-sitting gigs that require plant and yard care are no problem. You can even hire me separately to restore your yard to sustainable native conditions.
I am an independent filmmaker and educator with a passion for helping humans connect with other species. I have an BA in Liberal Arts, MFA in Digital Media, California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, and an AS in NaturalScience.
Long term: For anything 5 days or over the rate drops to $75 per day except for holidays which are $120.
Anything less than 5 days is $85 a day.
Single day adventures are $120. This is a full day outing, not a walk. We will likely go to multiple locations sniffing, running, and exploring, including but not limited to dog beaches and dog friendly hiking areas.
As a dog lover I do not leave my dogs behind in pretty much any circumstance, whether I’m going on a hike, to a bar, or house sitting. So you can expect at least one of my two kids to be joining. They are exceptionally well behaved, calm, small, conditioned to be around other animals, hypo-allergenic, and non-shedding. Sometimes The 6-year-old, Wolf Bear, will stay with his “his mom” and thus not join, but April, and older rescue, has suffered abandonment too severely for me to leave her behind.
This has never been an issue with any of my pet/house sitting cases in the past so it’s nothing to be concerned about, but you should be aware.
If your dogs are not well socialized, mine are two great individuals for your dogs to get to warm up with.
Boundaries:
It is understood that sometimes there are rooms that are off-limits to pets. It is also understood that there are areas that are considered private territory of the resident pets. My pets and myself happily adhere to such boundaries.
Please let me know if you have off-street parking or special parking instructions.
Please let me know about special diets and medications.
If you have plants with special watering/feeding needs please note these.
